Quick update - Isabella's 18 month stats + an accomplishment by Mercer

At 19 1/2 months, Isabella went for her 18 month appointment.  Seems to always happen like that.  But - she doesn't have to go back 'til she's 2 now, so maybe we'll get to schedule her appointment now with enough advanced notice and get it to align with her actual milestone.

Her height is at 53% (32 1/4").  Her weight is at 12% (22 lbs).  Her head circumference is at 73% (18 3/4").

The only thing that was even a slight concern that I brought up at the visit was that Isabella is not talking as much as I remember Mercer doing at this age.  (I just went and checked the blog for M's 18 month +/- and he was rapidly gaining words.)  The doctor and I were not too concerned because Isy is progressing... everyone progressing differently.  But - the doctor always asks if there is anything you want to talk about... that's the only thing that even came to mind!  Really everything is going very well with her.

While she was at the doctor's office, crying because she doesn't like to have her stats taken, we saw deep inside of her mouth and saw another tooth that we didn't know about... it's a molar on the top.  She has pushed in 5 or 6 teeth over the past few months!  (This translates to a lot of sleepless nights.)  She needs 2 more molars and her pre-molars - 6 more teeth in total. Then the doc says we'll be done for awhile.

I do have to report that there is some other type of development happening.  The past couple of weeks when dropping Isabella off at daycare, there's a little girl - Annie - that has been growling at her.  Immediately, Isabella would cower or run to me and cry.  This little girl knew that it upset her and did it over and over.  (I was often sooooo sad dropping her off when this was happening!)  A couple of days ago, when I picked Isabella up from daycare, SHE growled at Annie.  It startled the girl.  The next day when taking her in & Annie growled, Isabella didn't flinch.  By today - they were friends and sharing graham crackers!  Interesting~

Did I already mention that she's good at saying "mine" now?  (ugh - the tantrums and the "mine" stage has begun)  She has added "yay" to her vocabulary.  She's at a dozen or so words that are pretty clear.   She babbles a lot and carries on conversations.  Someone told us that when she really does talk... she's going to talk in full sentences!  :)  Here's a photo of her in last summer's lady bug dress.  This year, it's paired as a tank top with jeans!  :)

We have some news to report about Mercer since the last post a few days ago:  he's earned his Orange Belt at taekwondo!  Here are some shots of him going through a routine during his belt testing and then the presentation of the belt.

Pretty cool!

Completely separate thought - but should be mentioned... Mercer has been talking about his other parents lately.  He talks about the place where he was born.  (Although he doesn't know where it is / I have to tell him when he asks.)  He says he wants to go.  He also says that he wants to meet his other parents.  I've tried explaining that there's only "Ms. Danielle."  He asks how old she is (she should be 23 now).  He wants to write her a letter and send a picture.  We will write one this week to send to her.  It's interesting that it's come up out of the blue.  He said last week that he had a friend when he was born.  He said his name was Jayden.  (Crazy... that was the name that his birthmother gave him!)  But - yesterday when he was talking about his "friend" again from the time he was born, he changed the boy's name.

We'll see where this goes.  Obviously, there will be questions.  Little by little he's working through it in his own unique way.
